From the Alps, a sip of elderflower

When the weather turns chilly, liqueurs provide us with a nip of something warm. This year, St. Germain, the world's first elderflower liqueur, has popped up on this side of the pond.
An artisan blend from France, this sweet and slightly scented potable is made from elderflowers, plucked by hand at the base of the Alps. It's the creation of Robert Cooper, a third generation distiller and the former owner of Chambord liqueur.
Like Chambord, St. Germain is presented in a stunning bottle, this time tall and fluted like a classic column. Expect to pay about $30 for 750 ml. Its light, slightly citrus flavors and gorgeous presentation would make it a welcome gift for someone who enjoys a sweet sip late in the evening and who also would appreciate a lovely bottle to showcase on the bar.
The maker also suggests mixing St. Germain in cocktails. Here's a festive suggestion: In a tall, ice-filled Tom Collins glass, combine 1 1/2 shots St. Germain with two shots sparkling wine, prosecco or Sauvignon Blanc and two shots sparkling water or club soda. Cheers all around.
