Thankful for sleeping in

On this Thanksgiving day, I am grateful for many things. In addition to a loving family, good health and work I love, I'm thankful I'm not getting up at 3 a.m. in order to storm the Bastille (or Boscov's or JCPenney or Wal-Mart or any other retailer).

What I do look forward to (after I've had my morning coffee) is talking with shoppers, the real people who tell simple scribes what is really going on with the economy. For years, I've asked the important questions: Will you spend more or less? Do you feel confident in the economy? What's on your wish list?

Tomorrow, I'll visit lots of stores, reporting on Black Friday. If it's like other years, I won't buy a thing. I will bag priceless insights. Because if you want to know what consumers are thinking all you have to do is ask.
