The Calvin Klein Man next door

We had a little beefcake with our fried chicken this year at our community block party Sunday afternoon, traditionally an opportunity to sip wine, chow down and catch up on What's New With the Neighbors.

It was a real treat when Wheeler Neff, the wonderful chap who lives across the street, pulled out a magazine to show us what his son Garrett is up to these days. Garrett, who I remember as a teenager chopping firewood with his dad, is the new Calvin Klein Man, the chiseled icon for the designer fragrance. Clearly, all that upper-body exercise paid off.

On a personal note, it was a true joy to see a great kid from a fabu family make good. I'm adding CK Man to my holiday shopping list in order to support a kid from the neighborhood. Call it Girl Scout cookies -- with six-pack abs.

Garrett now lives in New York City, as befitting a successful model. But the middle-aged moms on our street are hoping he comes home for Thanksgiving -- and that he forgets to pack his shirts.

We already have begun stockpiling wood, just waiting to be chopped.
