Filling a nutritional hole in Dunkin' Donuts

If anybody out there is taking bets as to why I'd be visiting Dunkin' Donuts, here's a hefty hint: it's for the wonderful coffee.
It's not that I don't like doughnuts. It's that I like them too much. And they like me, too. Those crullers, dunkers and Bavarian cremes want to follow me around, hitching a ride on my butt.
And so I abstain, like the girl in the church choir who wants to grab a ride home from practice on the back of a bad boy's motorcycle but knows she shouldn't. Sigh.
But, praise be, Dunkin' Donuts aren't as naughty these days. Doughnuts with zero grams trans fat are currently being served in Philadelphia, the City of Brother Do I Love Doughnuts, and New York, the Big Apple Cider Doughnut. The trans fat-free doughnuts have been served in about 400 Dunkin' Donuts nationwide as part of a big fat blind taste test -- about 50 million doughnuts -- and the company says nobody complained.
Joe Scafido, Dunkin's chief creative and innovation officer, says Dunkin' has yet to attain the nutritional status of fruits and veggies.
"Certainly, we did not create a healthy doughnut," he says.
But it's a healthy first step. Can celery crullers be far behind?
