The skinny on Apple

You can never be too rich or too thin.

The thin part applies to the MacBook Air, dubbed "the world's thinnest notebook."

Priced starting at $1,799, the notebook was the most highly touted of the new products Apple czar Steve Jobs introduced at a much ballyhooed presentation in San Francisco today.

The news didn't surprise Apple aficionados who had ferreted out tech tidbits as the big day approached.

With as much flourish as a geek can muster, Jobs pulled the notebook from a manila envelope. The newbie measures a scant 0.76 inches at the hinge and weighs about three pounds.

If you're a Mac kind of person, you're thrilled.

If you're living in the real world, as I am, you're waiting to see if it really, really works. And I really, really hope it does because I want a laptop that is light as a feather -- and weighs less than my purse.
