Got milk? Try creamy Jersey Fresh
Like Springsteen, the best tomatoes and the Shore, somethings are quintessentially Jersey.
Now Jersey Fresh Skim Free Milk is on Garden State shelves, an elixir rich in flavor and calcium but with no fat, added antibiotics or recombinant bovine somatotropin, the hormones used to stimulate greater milk production. Expect to pony up about 50 cents more per half gallon than standard moo juice.
Five Jersey dairies are producing the milk, which contains no milk whatsoever from out-of-state cattle. (Don't have a cow, but it's processed in Pennsylvania. )
Frank Ferrante of Consolidated Dairies in Bergen County is distributing the milk. (He's shown here showing off a truck with a promotional paint job.) In addition to building strong bones and teeth, Ferrante says Jersey Fresh products also are healthy for the environment. It takes less fuel to transport them. And locally produced milk, fruits and veggies keep longer because they spend less of their young lives on trucks.

It certainly sounds like a positive thing to me. But what if I discovered that the recombinant bovine somatotropin was actually the part of the milk that I liked the best?
Let's buy Jersey stuff so they don't build housing developments on ALL the farms
I will gladly pay extra to get milk without antibiotics and growth hormones - local and fresh is another big plus.
