Liquor is quicker

In an ever-growing class of uber-premium vodkas, it's hard to set oneself apart from the rest of the class.
Christiania, which bills itself as the World's Smoothest Vodka, does so with elegance and simplicity. But then, the Scandinavians have had lots of practice. When King Christian of Denmark conquered Norway in 1596, he brought vodka with him, which no doubt made him popular with the locals.
These days, Christiania is crafted from Norwegian organic Trondelag potatoes and arctic spring water, according to the original recipe. The result is smooth as silk, with just a hint of sweetness, a round mouthfeel and a cool finish. Try it with smoked salmon, as the Scandinavians do -- or sushi. Expect to pay about $40 for a tall, sleek 750 ml bottle.
It's an equally opportunity Valentine's Day indulgence, appreciated by both genders, particularly those who have sworn off sweets.
As Ogden Nash so rakishly opined in "Reflections on Ice Breaking:"
Candy is dandy.
But liquor
Is quicker.
