From Alsace, a quartet of pinot blancs
This summer, take your palate on vacation and visit the fresh, light flavors of pinot blanc, a delicate but well-rounded white. I sampled four from Alsace, the German-flavored slice of France lush with vineyards, wines that are ideal for picnics and al fresco dining.
Priced at a mere $9, Domaine Alsace Willm 2005 is fruity and lively with low sulphur. Start pouring as soon as the shrimp comes off the barbecue.
A Pierre Sparr Reserve 2005 ($12) offers notes of apple, tangerine and pear, while Domaine Paul Blanck ($13) provides hints of sweet peach.
Domaines Schlumberger Les Prince Abbes 2004 ($14) was my favorite. It's fresh, crisp and dry, with a mineral nose and hints of floral. It's a stylish match for grilled scallops and Asian food.

Thanks for suggesting the Prince Abbe. I'm a total animal and am happy to get guidance on the finer things. Please tell us more about great wines in the future.
