Weekend tips for bargain hunters

JCPenney calls it an Xtreme Sale. Now through Saturday, the store is offering a straight $10 off a single purchase of $50, $15 off on a $75 buy and a $20 reduction on a purchase of $100 or more. The offer is good on any of Penney's three channels -- the store, the catalog or jcp.com.

Penney's is also coaxing consumers to open their wallets with night and day doorbusters, from 5-10 p.m. today and 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday. The price on standard or queen pillows from the retailer's private-label home collection has been scrunched from $14.99 to $4.99. Reebok athletic shoes, usually $45-$70, are on sale for $39.99 across the board.

Other goodies: 50 percent off junior girls' South Pole apparel; half price on amethyst and aquamarine jewelry; and an extra 15 percent of lamps, already marked down to half price. A closeout deal on a 10-piece Philippe Richard cookware set lowers the price from $174.99 to $69.88. The set comes with a triple bonus, a cutlery set, griddle and non-stick roaster.

Inspiration, the short-lived contemporary furniture store on Route 70 in Cherry Hill, is in the final days of its sellout. The store will close its doors for good at 5 p.m. Sunday. Until then, shoppers with their own trucks or vans can pick up furniture marked down at least 60 percent. All sales are final.
