With no holiday on the calendar, retailers are gearing up for a bargain-filled weekend.
Call it the Between President's Day and Easter Sale.
Starting Friday, JCPenney is opening at 8 a.m. for a two-day promotion that includes such attractions as 50-60 percent off the entire stock of sheets. The discounts are even deeper for deals offered from 5-10 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday. Among them: 60 percent off all sterling silver jewelry and 70 percent off gold.
Kohl's Super Saturday promotion rewards early birds who shop between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. They can take an extra 15 percent off selected housewares, knocking the price of a KitchenAid heavy duty stand mixer down to $229.99 and a George Foreman Next Generation grill with bun warmer to $49.99.
I'll be heading to Macy's to buy a Fifth Avenue crystal stemware set, discounted from $60 to $19.99. (I'll let you know if they're still in stock!) The set includes a dozen all-purpose goblets, six balloons for red wine and a half dozen glasses for white.

I got the LAST set of wine goblets at Macy's! Also a pair of Lunt Art Deco style silver-plate candlesticks marked down from $75 to $14.99 and a three-piece Kaspar pantsuit (pink jacket with black top-stitching, black shell and trousers), discounted from $320 to $84.99. This was undoubtedly my best shopping day of 2007. And the year is young!
