Pucker up, sweet lips

"Lipstick is a way for a woman to mark her territory," says Napoleon Perdis, the Australian maker of the Love Bite Lip Pump, a squeeze-on lip color that also encourages lips to plump up for a soft, fuller look.

So, how to they do it? First, a pleasant-smelling mixture of capsium pepper and cinnamin gently stings the lips, encouraging them to swell toward Anjelina Jolie-like proportions. Menthol and jojoba are soothing agents. The suggested price: $22.

The lip color is slightly tinted to add a rosy glow. For deeper color, glide lipstick on top. You'll find Napoleon Perdis products at Saks at Short Hills Mall and online at napoleonperdis.com

I like the idea of using a gloss to plump my lips but does it work as well as getting them plumped up by injection at the doctor's office?

Lip plumpers provide a low-cost temporary boost. The fillers injected directly into the lips at a physician's office can make the lips much fuller, plus the effect lasts for six months or so. There's a big difference in cost, $20-$30 for a plumper, versus $400-$600 for injections. Hope that helps!
