Crowning the best in drug store beauty lines

So, who knows what's hot in the beauty section at the drug store?
Yuppers, it's young women (ironically those who need beauty enhancements least) who determine what sells and what stays on the shelf without a date, er, buyer.
That's why the folks at the recent National Association of Chain Drug Stores asked youthful lovelies to judge this year's Most Wanted Beauty Products during the NACDS marketplace conference in Alexandria, Va.
The judges, all sporting perfect hair and flawless makeup, were brought in by InStyle magazine; all were readers ages 19-22. These six style scouts schmoozed with vendors and reviewed the latest products to choose the cream of the crop. It's gruelling work, comparing beauty aids. But these young ladies stepped up to the mat.
These are the products crowned by the gals:
Product Innovation: Conair, Infinity Hair Designer

Packaging: Body America Organics (to be launched Aug. 25)

Cosmetics: Juice Organics, Lip Amplifier

Cosmetics Runner Up: Physician's Formula, Shimmer Strips

Hair Care: Alagio, Crazy Curl & Silk Obsession

Hair Care Runner Up: New brush line from Jean Louis David (several variations)

Skin Care: Nature's Care, Organic Lotion

Skin Care Runner Up: Lumiport, Dermastyle

Most Buzzworthy: Hollywood Lips

This is pretty interesting and makes sense, but I noticed a new trend, at least at our Cherry Hill Wegmans earlier this week that I think defy's the "youth-driven" market theory...

I was perusing the hair care/beauty aisle and noticed Kerastase products are sold. I discovered Kerastase in New York and London, and was told it was a frizzy hair girl's dream come true. It's very very expensive, and I only know one woman who actually can afford to use it. In wegmans, the products are just sitting there, no glass enclosure, and the price tag is from $80 and up for a tube of conditioner, etc.

Now, I don't know too many young women who can afford this, so I'm thinking maybe it's more affluent women who have brought the demand for higher-end products? Who knows... I'm just glad I was able to open it up and dab a little on hair :-)

Omigoodness! I checked out Kerastase on eBay -- and you can get a 6.8-ounce tube of conditioner for $19.99, plus $6 shopping. A salon-size bottle of shampoo is $45, with a whopping $25 in shipping charges.
